Burt Lancaster stars as Cross, a US intelligence veteran whose CIA chief McLeod (John Colicos) has marked him for termination. On the run from the assassin, the old spy takes refuge with his Soviet counterpart--a retired KGB operative, Zharkov (Paul Scofield).
